Brief: The Temple of Heaven is another landmark of Beijing, and the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest is the symbol of Beijing Tourism. The place was first built in 1420, and served as a vast sacred place to worship and offering sacrifices to the god of Heaven for the emperors.
The Temple of Heaven covers an area of 273 hectares, although the main building only occupy one twentieth of the whole park land. All of them have their own characteristics and rich in symbolism. Ancient Chinese belifes like " Sircular Heaven, Sqaure Earth", "Supernal Heaven", and " Blue Sky, Yellow Earth" are all exqusitely reflected here.
Today the Temple of Heaven Park is alive iwth people playing cards, walting to music blaring from small stereos, playing musical instruments, practicing opera or just sitting and chat. The park is a great place to see how retired locals spend their leisure time. |
